   Proposal Description:
   We propose a secondary analysis of data related to depression in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild Alzheimer's dementia (AD) using clinical and neuropathological data collected by the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC).  The overarching goal of the project is to evaluate the neuroanatomical substrate of depression in the earliest stages of Alzheimer's disease.  The NACC is the only currently available large-scale database in the United States that will permit the proposed study.  The primary goal of this project is to investigate the relationship between Alzheimer's disease pathology, specifically neurofibrillary tangle and beta-amyloid pathology, and clinically significant depression in patients with the earliest stages of Alzheimer's disease.
